Welfare Case Study

Rocky with friend

A typical re-home (Chloe and Rocky)

Chloe a 4 yr old bitch and Rocky a 3 yr old dog were re-homed on the 10th and 11th of August 2007.

On the 6th of August Dee was contacted by the owners to ask for our help. They had bought Chloe and Rocky as a ‘breeding pair’ in March and after three months decided they did not want them. Also after being served with a Noise Abatement Order and problems with neighbours they needed someone to take them off their hands. After talking to them on the phone we discovered they were keeping the dogs in a shed at the bottom of the garden with 6 standard poodles and 1 Weimaraner!

Having been told this we contacted Mavis Chapman, who was the nearest to the home, to ask if she could assess the dogs. She went to see
them two days later and reported back to say they needed removing A.S.A.P. Mavis was not allowed access to the property but the dogs were brought  out to the front garden where Mavis could see they were undernourished and had cuts and bites around the neck and head, Chloe was particularly small, quite emaciated and very frightened.

Chloe was re-homed on the 10th August where she would have lots of love and attention given to her which was what she needed.  She had obviously been ill treated as she cowered in the corner on arriving at the new home.  If she peeped her head round and saw you there she curled up in a ball cowering.  The new owners sat up all night with her to try and gain her trust and eventually she did sit with them.

Chloe was taken to the vet whereupon it was discovered that she had fox mites and she was given a course of steroids and a gentle diet to build her up.

Little things like learning to play with toys etc., are all new to her.
She has settled very well with her new family and is now very spoilt!

Rocky came out the next day and was in a bit better condition than Chloe, although underweight and again probably been mistreated.

He was re-homed where there was also a Bull Mastiff bitch (who was very daft and easy going!). Rocky very soon became part of the family and settled in very well, where again he is very well looked after and quite spoilt!

We are having constant updates on both dogs and are very pleased with the outcome, that they are now getting the treatment they well and truly deserve.
